Back in Grand Valley Hospital, Salinsburgh, Cedrick was sitting by the bed while the nurse brought in a tray of

medical supplies. On it were antiseptic solutions, cotton swabs, disinfectants, and some other medicines.

Gwendolyn watched on from a corner. She had no intention to offer any help in applying the medicine.

Cedrick was scrutinizing her facial expression. When he saw that Gwendolyn was not a tad bit jealous of the nurse

who was treating the wound on his arm, he felt upset.

Hence, he coaxed Gwendolyn to go for an assessment at the psychiatry department once he was done.

The results came out after half an hour.

“Mr. Jenson, Mrs. Jenson has really lost her memory, and she won’t be able to recall many things. However, upon

examining her, I realize that her case of amnesia is a mild one. It’s very likely to be temporary. It might help to

bring her to some familiar places and go down memory lane with her.”

Cedrick was holding his breath at the doctor’s office. He stared at the medical report and fell into a prolonged

silence.

The doctor continued, “Mrs. Jenson’s memory loss is probably caused by her injury. According to Megan, Mrs.

Jenson developed a high fever and was unconscious for two days. The back of her head was hit, and the bruises

have yet to dissipate. It appears that she was hurt quite badly at that time. Anyway, you don’t have to worry too

much, Mr. Jenson. We’ve taken a CT scan of her brain, and there isn’t any blood clot in her cerebellum. In other

words, there’s no nerve compression. Hence, it’s only a matter of time before she will regain her memory.”

Cedrick put down the report and left the doctor’s office without uttering a single word.

Gwendolyn was waiting quietly in the VIP ward. She did not speak until the moment Cedrick entered the room.

“I’ve done all the tests as per your request. When can I leave the hospital?” she asked eagerly.

Cedrick slowly walked across the room toward her, bent down, and helped her to put on her shoes. “Today.”

“Great! You can pack up now. Where’s Megan? I’ll go look for her.”

He did not respond but quietly helped her put on her shoes.

Charles, who followed Nico to Federal Bureau of Investigation, heard that Cedrick brought Gwendolyn to the

hospital and immediately rushed over to see her. After asking the nurses in the hallway, he managed to find

Gwendolyn’s ward.

The door to her ward was not completely shut but slightly ajar.

When Charles was about to push it open, he overheard some voices talking in the room. Hence, he stood by the

door and waited.

“Mr. Jenson, you asked me to cooperate with the doctor for a medical assessment, and I did. How was it? What

does the report say? Are you satisfied?”

Cedrick sighed and shook his head. He was stumped. After what felt like an eternity, he uttered, “I’m sorry.”

When interacting with Gwendolyn the past few days, he thought she was faking her memory loss, but the test

results told him otherwise.

It was true. Gwendolyn had completely forgotten about him.

She looked at him and noticed a faint red rim at the corner of his eyes. His short hair at that moment gave off a

totally different vibe. In front of her, he was not a hostile personality like when he was working.

She felt a hint of sympathy for him.

Cedrick’s eyelashes trembled slightly as he tried his best to suppress his emotions. “I’m in the wrong for testing you

multiple times over the past few days. I’ll bring you home later and show you our marriage certificate. If you still

insist on leaving me to keep Megan company, I promise I won’t stop you anymore.”

Gwendolyn stretched out her hand and patted his head. Right when she was about to speak, she caught a glance of

the door gap.

The light source from the room hit the glass surface of the man’s expensive watch and created a dazzling reflection

that could only be seen from Gwendolyn’s angle.

It was Charles.

She froze for a second before pinching Cedrick’s cheek and scrutinizing his features.

“You’re very handsome, Mr. Jenson. Your above-average face fits my beauty standards, and you’ve made it to the

top of my good-looking list. However, your smoking habit is awfully bad.”

Instantly, Cedrick lifted his head and said in a serious tone, “Don’t worry, Gwenny, I’ll quit smoking.”

“That’s good.” Smiling, her eyes curved into a crescent shape. She added playfully, “Yesterday, Charles asked me

who would I pick if I had to choose a husband between the two of you.”

Her statement piqued his interest, and the red rim around his eyes disappeared almost instantly. “Did you change

your mind, Gwenny?”

She nodded. “I’ve thought about it, and I pick you.”

She flashed him a genuine smile, indicating she had made a serious choice. She was not telling a joke to make him

happy.

Upon hearing that, the bitterness in Cedrick’s heart went away in no time. Yet, he still had his doubts. “Gwenny, you

said you hated the fact that I smoke. Will you really pick me?”

“What’s the big deal? I can help you quit. If you don’t succeed the first time, I’ll beat you up until a miracle

happens.”

That’s my darling wife!

Outside of the ward, disappointment swirled in Charles’ eyes as he lowered his head and gradually shut the door.

He did not plan to enter the room anymore.

Even when she’s suffering from amnesia, she hasn’t considered me one bit. Even though I found her earlier than

Cedrick, she still wouldn’t come with me. Does she really not have any feelings toward me? Not even a tiny bit?

Really?

A riot of emotions brewed within Charles as his expression turned grim.

Should I let it go after pursuing her for more than a decade?

He recalled the words Gwendolyn said to him when they were in Erihal. You’ve missed your chance, and there won’t

be another. Life is about moving forward. You are trapping yourself into the past and refusing to see anything

beyond that.

As he was thinking about it, he took the elevator downstairs.

When its door opened, a familiar voice rang out. “Charles, why are you here? Finally, you’re willing to come back?”

Left with no choice, Charles withdrew himself from his thoughts and looked up. He saw Jasmine and Whitney

standing arm in arm outside the elevator door.

While Jasmine was delighted to see him, Whitney was quite shocked.

He walked out, ignoring Jasmine’s question. “Why are you two here at the hospital?” he queried in return.

Suddenly, Jasmine became upset and complained, “I thought you purposely made a trip here to accompany

Whitney to see the doctor. Who would have guessed it’s all a coincidence? You’ve disappeared for ten days and

even blocked my calls. What have you been up to?”

Feeling uneasy, Charles averted his gaze. He gave Whitney a once-over and noticed how pale her face was. She

seems to have lost some weight. Is she not doing well at the Newton residence?

“What’s the matter? Are you feeling unwell?”

Whitney smiled wryly. “I’m fine. It’s just a small matter. I wanted to take some medicine but Jasmine was worried

and insisted that I come here for a follow-up.”

“A follow-up?” Charles caught a keyword.

Before Whitney had a chance to explain, Jasmine interrupted angrily, “You’re too much, Charles! Do you care about

Whitney at all? I told you before that she was admitted to the hospital for stomach flu. Her stomach hasn’t been

well, and she repeatedly feels uncomfortable. You have never cared for her once.”

Charles was flabbergasted. He had completely forgotten about that.

Feeling guilty, he looked down and said nothing, allowing Jasmine to reprimand him.

Whitney grabbed Jasmine’s arm, gesturing for her to stop. “I’m okay. It’s just a small matter. He’s usually busy at

work, so it’s normal that it slips his mind.”

“You can keep defending him, Whitney. The more you do that, the less he cares about you.”

Whitney responded with an awkward smile.

Ours is a contract marriage, to begin with. Charles doesn’t have any feelings for me. Thus, it’s natural for him not

to think about me.

Charles put one hand in his pocket while channeling his focus on the ladies’ arms that were hooked together.

Subsequently, he reached out to separate the two of them. He grabbed Whitney’s wrist and pulled her in his

direction to bring her closer to him.

“I’ll stay with my sick wife. You can leave now.”

Stunned, Jasmine and Whitney exchanged glances.
