Shenton was once associated with Mr. Jordan too. Aren’t you concerned that he’s

“Show me proof!” Fabian’s anger flared.

Reluctantly, Wendy handed over the blood test report. “Her blood type doesn’t match.”

“Then release her,” Fabian commanded, growing impatient.

Wendy turned to Caroline. “You’re free to go.”

Caroline was taken aback but concealed her surprise. “Alright.”

As she walked past Evan, he grabbed her arm and pulled her close.

Caroline found herself leaning against his chest, hearing his steady heartbeat. His voice was cold

as he spoke. “Thank you for being here, Chief Dunn. Your presence saved my girlfriend from a

false accusation.”

Fabian turned and apologized awkwardly. “Tm sorry, Mr. Jordan. Detective Walsh is only doing her

job.”

Evan sneered and left the hospital, his hand holding Caroline’s.

As Caroline reached for the door, Evan wrapped his arm around her waist, pulling her closer again.
