Chapter 2198 Forget About Fitting In

"I haven't used a sewing machine in a while, so I needed a little time to get used to it." Cindy smiled.

Serena could see that, but she still nodded and replied, "I'll get someone to arrange a sewing machine for you.

Whenever you have a task to work on, just head over here by yourself."

"Thank you, Miss Warhol." Cindy could no longer hide the excitement written on her face.

Later that afternoon, Serena didn't arrange any further jobs for Cindy to handle, only telling her to practice more in

the Altering and Tailoring Department. Although she could tell that Serena was doing that for her own good, she

smiled at her silently as a sign of gratitude instead of thanking her verbally to avoid any unwanted

misunderstandings. Fortunately, her gesture was tacitly understood by her mentor.

After that, Cindy spent the entire afternoon trying to familiarize herself with the sewing machine. After all, they

were much more advanced than the ones she used back in her school. Due to modern technology, a lot of the

machines and devices were electronically automated, which required no further adjustments from her before

operating.

While Cindy went on with her work, Lucy showed up with her mentees, who looked like they also needed to do some

tailoring and sewing. As soon as Lucy noticed Cindy's presence, she seemed slightly stunned but didn't approach

and greet her. Instead, she took her mentees to one of the sewing machines and taught them how to use it.

In the meantime, Cindy found it amusing for some reason, thinking the show she put on with Serena earlier that

afternoon was probably starting to do the trick. Knowing Lucy's character, Cindy was sure the woman would always

greet her regardless of where they were. Thus, she was surprised Lucy chose to ignore her instead, but at the

same time, she was happy to have been ignored.

Not long after that, Lucy went on to supervise her mentees while they learned how to use the machines,

occasionally peeking at Cindy, but even until the end, she didn't approach her to say hi.

On the other hand, Cindy wasn't interested in Lucy as she focused on her work and tailored a pair of slacks with her

sewing machine. She then placed the pants on the dummy and realized it was good enough without any further

amendments needed.

As Cindy carried on with her work, it was soon time to go home. Thus, she tidied up the workspace around her

sewing machine and returned the rest of the fabrics to their original places, organizing the thread boxes neatly.

Upon tidying the sewing machine, she returned to her office, feeling satisfied with her productive day.

Ah! I never thought I'd get to apply the knowledge I learned back then. This is so fulfilling! By the time Cindy

returned to her office and packed her belongings, almost everyone had left. She let out a sigh of relief and walked

out of the office.

Meanwhile, Serena happened to exit her office shortly before running into Cindy. Therefore, the two ladies headed

downstairs together while chatting with each other. "I'll be attending a show in two days, so I'm going to be away.

Don't worry, though—I'll be in touch."

"I see. By the way, I heard about the group chat with all of the employees in it. I'm not in the group yet," Cindy

mentioned.

Serena pondered for a second and replied, "I'll send you an invite later, but I'll contact you personally whenever I

have jobs for you. As for the group chat, I'd advise you to keep a low profile there. Things are more complicated

than they seem there."

As someone who preferred spending her time on something else rather than gossiping, Cindy nodded in response.

"Alright, I heard you, but I'm asking about the group chat because I thought that was where I could receive orders

to work on."

Afraid that Cindy might overthink, Serena explained, "I don't usually respond there. If you're thinking about trying to

fit in by being active, you can forget about it; you won't make friends that way. Instead, you're only going to get a

bunch of people who will be jealous of you."

Cindy was amused when she heard Serena's words, and she couldn't agree more with her. Unfortunately, that's the

truth. She had once created a chat group back in college, but despite her efforts, she failed to strengthen the bond

between her group members. Whenever they bumped into each other, they'd simply lower their heads and pretend

not to know each other. Because of that, she learned that it wasn't necessary to show anyone else how close she

was to someone in a group chat.
