Chapter 117

1/1

She opened her bag and checked the contents. All her belongings were still there. As for her phone,

she recalled that it had been sna tched away from her at the Foster’s house when they discovered it.

Her phone was turned off, so she turned it back on only to find that there were tons of missed calls and

unread messages.

Some of those were from her grandmother, some from Lisa, and others were from unknown numbers.

Serenity had a good guess of why her grandmother would call her. As for Lisa.. She scrolled through

her phone and found that Lisa had called her more than twenty times, so she called her back right

away.

Lisa picked up almost as soon as the call went through and asked, “Is that you, Serenity?”

“Yes,” she replied, “it’s me. I… turned off my phone yesterday, and I saw your calls just now when I

turned it back on.”

Lisa sighed in relief and said, “Oh my Go d, I was so worried when I couldn’t call you last night. You

told me you were going to your grandmother’s house for the New Year’s Eve dinner. I was afraid that

something might happen to you since your. grandmother is the only one who treats you well in that

family. The rest of them just want to kick you while you’re down.”

Lisa frantically added that she had been trying to call Serenity since last night till this morning, but the

call just would not get through. The more she thought about it, the mare anxious she got. She finally

decided that if she was unable to call Serenity by noon, she would rush to Serenity’s grandmather’s

house right away since she already knew the address anyway.

“By the way,” Lisa asked with concern, “did they do anything awful to you last night?”

“They tried to sell me off to a psychopath as his wife,” Serenity replied without concealing anything, and

they wanted to use the money to buy a house.”

She then proceeded to tell Lisa about everything that had transpired yesterday.

“How could there be such brazenly savage people?!” Lisa exclaimed through gritted teeth. “How are

you? Did they hurt you?

“I’m fine,” she replied. “Jack saved me just in time, so nothing happened to me.”

“Where are you now? Are you back at your place? I’ll come to find you.”

“Don’t bother,” she told Lisa hastily, “1… I’m not back home yet. I’m with Jack right now. I’ll come to see

you after I’ve gotten home.”

Hearing this, Lisa reminded her to be careful and added, “Those relatives of yours must be taught a

harsh lesson this time, otherwise, if you let them go this time, they’ll surely try to sell you off again next

time.”

“Okay, okay, I got it.”

Once she hung up the phone, she stared at her grandmother’s phone number in the missed call list

with hesitance in her heart. What would Grandma say to her? Would she tell her to let go of what had

happened and pretend it never happened, or would she tell her to… let her uncles and aunt receive the

punishments they deserved?

She took a deep breath and called her grandmother. It did not take long for the call to be answered,

and she heard her grandma’s trembling voice ask, “Serenity, is that you?”

“Yes,” she replied, suddenly on the verge of tears when she heard her grandma’s voice.

“Serenity, did… Did anything happen to you yesterday? L… I heard that a powerful man had come to

save you last night. Did that fool, Felix, take advantage of you?! Did they…”

“No, Grandma. I’m fine. Nothing has happened to me since last night.”

“I’m glad to hear it. I’m so glad to hear it!”

It sounded like her grandmother sighed in relief before she added, “If anything terrible really happened

to you last night, how could I ever face your mother when I join her in the afterlife?”

At that moment, Serenity’s urge to cry only grew stronger and stronger.
