Betty’s blood boiled with excitement.

Sean introduced them to each other. “Mom, this is my friend Gwen. Gwen, this is my mom.”

“Hello, Mrs. Yates Senior.”

As Betty carefully looked Gwen over, her lips slowly curled into a smile. The more she looked at Gwen, the happier

she became. In particular, she was pleased at how her son referred to Gwen as his friend.

“Gwen, right? You must be tired after getting off the plane. Come in! Go get some rest.”

As Betty pulled Gwen into the house, Gwen turned back to Sean and the others for help. However, they

simply smiled at her and didn’t say anything.

“I’m going home now. Enjoy catching up with your best friend.” Kirk gently patted Caroline’s head.

Caroline watched Kirk leave before returning to the living room with Sean. When she got there, she heard

Betty asking Gwen if she had a boyfriend.

Gwen was helpless in the face of Betty’s enthusiasm. She looked at Caroline and Sean for help.

Seeing this, Sean approached them and said, “Mom, Gwen is Caroline’s friend. Since she’s here to see her friend,

you shouldn’t monopolize her time. Let them catch up and bond.”

Betty said, “Oh, you’re friends with Caroline, too. Oh my, you should’ve said so sooner. All right, I won’t

keep you from catching up any longer.”

Having said that, Betty stood up and glanced at her son. “Sean, come upstairs. I have something to tell

you.”

Sean was speechless. It was clear that she was targeting him now.

When they entered the study, Betty asked eagerly, “Well, is she? Is she?”

Sean acted dumb. “What?”

“Of course she is. You like Gwen, right?”

Sean avoided Betty’s assertive gaze and looked out the window. “Don’t talk nonsense.”

“As if I’m doing that. You’re my son. I know you very well,” Betty said proudly.

“You don’t usually say anything when I pester Carrie. But today, you were talking more aggressively, and you were

more protective of Gwen. Don’t you dare lie to me.”

“I’m not lying, Mom. Don’t be ridiculous.” Sean still tried to argue.

“If you’re not lying, then why do you treat Carrie more distantly and treat Gwen more affectionately?”

Sean was rendered speechless.

Betty pressed her advantage. “Sean, I’m your mother. It’s not a big deal if you tell me. Besides, I like that girl very

much. She’s graceful and pleasant to be around.”

“Really?”

Sean said tentatively, “But she’s from an ordinary family.”

“Let me ask you something. What do you think of her personality?”

“She’s a righteous person. She really likes money too, but she earns it all through hard work.”

Seeing how Sean hastily added that last part, Betty smiled.

“Then, the case is closed. At first, I thought you had to find someone who would be a good match for you. But ever

since Marietta found her daughter, it’s opened my eyes.”

After a moment, she continued, “How well-matched you are doesn’t matter. That is nothing compared to being with

someone you like and someone who has a good personality.

“If you marry someone with Yvonne, your personal life will definitely be in chaos. I trust your grasp on

someone’s personality.” 1

Betty thought Sean would be happy to hear her words. Unexpectedly, Sean forced a smile. “Thank you,

Mom. You’re really understanding.”

“Hey, hang on. You don’t seem to be praising me.”

Betty asked curiously, “What’s wrong? Is there something stopping the two of you?”

“Yeah.”

Sean didn’t hide the truth from his mother. “She doesn’t want to marry me.”
