“Are you worried that Mr. Kirk will come and take her away?”

“I’m sure he’ll show up on that day.”

“I understand. I’ll ask all the bodyguards to guard the entrance heavily. We won’t let Mr. Kirk take a step

into the venue.”

“No.”

Eddy said, wearing a malicious smile, “I want you to let him in.”

“Mr. Eddy-”

Eddy raised his hand to stop Simon from talking. “Just do as I say, Mr. Zellen.

“I want him to see Caroline marry me with his own eyes. She was mine in the first place. Since he took her

away from me, I’m taking her back.”

Simon still tried to persuade Eddy otherwise. “But Mr. Eddy, you can’t underestimate Mr. Kirk. If you let

him into the wedding, he may disrupt it.”

“That’s why I’m asking you to watch him.”

Eddy said coldly, “Remember. We’re in Easton. This

is my territory!”

Simon agreed, “Yes, sir.”

After waking in Gwen’s room in the morning, the first thing Sean did was call Jack. When he learned that

Jack had also left the bar, his expression shifted.

“How could you leave? Didn’t you say you would be there to watch him?”

Jack said, “Sir asked me to leave/He said he would be fine.”

“I can’t believe you would trust the words of a heartbroken man,” Sean rebuked,

“Forget it.” After saying that, he hung up and called Kirk.

While waiting for the call to connect, Sean kept praying that his friend was okay. God probably heard his

prayers because he heard Kirk’s voice on the phone a few minutes later.

“Is there a problem?” Kirk sounded very languid. He didn’t seem like someone who was overwhelmed

with grief from his broken heart.

“Oh, thank goodness you’re fine…” Sean sighed in relief.

“What did you expect would happen?” Kirk rolled over on the bed. Since he hadn’t drawn the blinds, large

swaths of sunlight shone on hi .

The sunlight didn’t warm his body. But his limbs were less cold than before.

“Are you really okay now?” Having been friends with Kirk for so long, Sean thought he knew him very well.

Right now, Kirk didn’t sound like someone who was in trouble.

“Yeah.”

Sean hung up the phone in confusion. His actions had woken Gwen up.

“What happened?” Gwen ruffled her messy hair.

“Kirk … seems to be fine now…”

Gwen stopped what she was doing when she heard what Sean said. “What did you say?”

“Yesterday, he was totally depressed after finding out that Caroline had gotten engaged to Eddy. But he

sounded normal when I called him just now. No…”

Sean picked up his coat. “I’m going to see him.”

Gwen stopped him. “Hang on. I’ll go with you.”

“You want to come along?”

“Yeah.”

Seeing this, Sean said nothing else and left the house with Gwen. When they reached the elevator, Sean

got a call from Jack.

“Dr. Yates, is Mr. Kirk all right?”

“It’s hard to say.” Sean pinched the bridge of his nose.

“I’m on my way to see him.”

Jack felt incredibly guilty. “Where is he? I’ll go, too.”

“He should be at his and Caroline’s home.”

“All right. I’ll head over there immediately.”

“Sure.” After hanging up the phone, Sean told Gwen that Jack was coming too. Then, they got in the car

and drove to Kirk and Caroline’s place.
